In 2005, at the young age of 32, Nicole Cone's life changed dramatically when she was diagnosed with Stage III Breast Cancer. Nicole was a fighter, determined to battle the disease regardless of her prognosis, which she only learned in 2022. Throughout her journey, she kept her health challenges private, sharing them only with the immediate family. On May 7, 2023, Nicole's earthly fight ended as God called her home.
Nicole was an exceptional student, excelling in both high school and college. She attended Georgia Southern University, where she earned a degree in Industrial Engineering in 1996 and a Mathematics degree in 1998. Nicole was an active member of the National Society of Black Engineers, the Institute of Industrial Engineers, and Gamma Beta Phi Honor Society.
For nearly 25 years, Nicole worked at AT&T as a manager of Outside Planning and Engineering Design. Her impeccable work ethic and dedication were evident to all who knew her, as she never let her health challenges hinder her professional performance.
Nicole was initiated into the Xi Eta Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. in 1995, where she formed lifelong bonds with her line-sisters. To honor Nicole's legacy and memory, her line-sisters established the Nicole Cone Memorial Scholarship Fund in January 2025. This scholarship supports high school students in her hometown of Statesboro, Georgia, who demonstrate academic achievement, leadership, and a commitment to making an impact in their chosen field and in life—qualities that Nicole held in high esteem throughout her life.
